Documents regarding the closure of the Custodid de San Carlos de Sonora, [ca. 1791].

Copies of documents about closing the mission-settlement at San Carlos, the major settlement in Sonora, one of the four areas into which the Provincias Internas were divided around 1782. The documents by various authors refer to Barbastro's report which suggested abandoning the Custodid. The report, covering the period from 1782 to 1788, comments on the new administrative organization, the hostility of the Seri and Apache Indians, missionary work, and explorations. Barbastro urges a return to the old administrative system.
